Looking back at the early 2000s, it’s impossible to overlook them. One of the artists who offered something new and made their own, but also the identity of one era. Linkin Park is one of those generation-defining bands. So, where is the ‘problem’? It’s kinda easy to understand. On the other side of the spectrum, "Talking to Myself" has the most rock or live feel, leaving every other track somewhere in between. When they did the 'One More Light' album which came out in May 2017, just two months before Chester's death, it wasn't received the way they thought it was gonna be received, or at least the way. Now, its probably not intentional but, with its compact length and having only 10 tracks, 'One More Light' is a little against the grain. So, while "Heavy" featuring Kiiara is probably the poppiest song on the record, it may be one of the biggest surprises on it. Drizzy took it one step further earlier this year by simply promoting his recent full-length release 'More Life' as a straight-up playlist as opposed to a traditional album. Front to back, record acts like a whole, like a well-thought concept, and not just a compilation of songs, and while not all songs are equally good, there is more than enough of quality stuff here. With all songs on mid to slow tempo, every aspect of the sound can get to the listener. But how does it work together? Better than you might expect. On one side we have guitars, drums, and rock feel, while on the other side there are synths, beats or Odesza style chopped vocals. One More Light offers ten electronic rock hybrids, filled with many more different influences. Yes, there are no heavy guitars, Chester Bennington is not screaming his lungs out, and the band is not angry as it used to be. Linkin Park went on a hiatus when longtime lead vocalist Bennington died. Their sixth album, The Hunting Party (2014), returned to a heavier rock sound, and their seventh album, One More Light (2017), was their first pop-oriented record.
